With the help of his employees and family members, Turkey Farmer David Jaindl, owner of Jaindl Farms, Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, hosted a Tough Mudder event on a hot sunny weekend, June 1 and 2, 2013, at one of the company’s farms in Heidelberg Township, Lehigh County. Jaindl’s motivation to host the event was stimulated by Tough Mudder’s commitment to The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP). The hard Tough Mudder course attracted 22,000 participants and 8,000 spectators and was considered one of the best and most beautiful venue designs for the race. In fall 2013, Jaindl donated $50,000 in proceeds from the event to The Wounded Warrior Project, in time for commemorating veterans on Veterans Day and giving thanks for Thanksgiving. The check was presented to Denis M. Oliverio, Director of Major Gifts at WWP and a wounded warrior veteran, at an assembly for history students at Parkland High School attended by local and regional media and local dignitaries.
